It’s Getting Weird In Denver….Peyton Tells Broncos He Wants To Come Back

AFC Champion Denver Broncos and NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks are the center of Super Bowl XLVIII Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Peyton Manning informed the Denver Broncos that he wants to come back for his 18th NFL season.

Now, things are going to get very interesting.

Manning guaranteed $19 million if he is on Denver’s roster on March 9. Considering the Broncos have Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas to re-sign, it might not be the most financially sane move to dish out nearly $20 million in base salary to a quarterback whose physical skills are eroding at age 38.

To me, it doesn’t make a ton of sense for the Broncos to bring Manning back if your main goal is to win a Super Bowl…UNLESS, the plan is to continue to center the offense around the rushing attack.

If Denver is going to drop back Manning over 600 times again, you know how that movie is going to end….

…And they probably do too. Is Manning better than 95% of the quarterbacks in the NFL at this point of his career? Absolutely.

That is the Catch 22 here. Jumping inside of the collective brain of Denver’s brass, they may know it’s time to move on considering they are revamping their offensive system. Yet, are they patient enough to watch another quarterback develop that is not named Peyton Manning?

When the curtain is pulled back on the 2015 season, I don’t think Manning will be under center for the Broncos. Well, not at $19 million in 2015.
