The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Houston Texans 21-7 on Saturday evening to advance to the AFC Divisional round behind a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Andrew Luck.

The wild card round opener saw Houston fall behind 21-0 in the first half and only being able to muster a Deshaun Watson touchdown pass in the third quarter for their only points of the day.

Meanwhile, Colts running back Marlon Mack rushed 24 times for 148 yards and a touchdown to keep Houston’s hard-charging pass rush at bay.

Now, the 12-4 Kansas City Chiefs are up next for the Colts, who are the last team standing from the AFC South. While the Chiefs have the league’s possible MVP in quarterback Patrick Mahomes and already have been installed as six-point favorites next Saturday (4:35 EST, NBC), playoff history is not on their side.

The Colts are 4-0 all-time against the Chiefs including a pair of wins in Kansas City in the 1995 and 2003 postseasons. However, the most gruesome loss may have five years ago in Indianapolis.

The Chiefs blew a 38-10 second half to the Colts in a 45-44 loss, which featured Luck throwing for 443 yards and four touchdowns. Not much is the same from that game but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is still roaming the sidelines; while Luck and T.Y. Hilton are still doing their thing for the Colts.

  1. I live in Indiana, so I see the Colts every day. I’ve been watching football for fifty years, and the transformation from last year, to the team that started 1-5, to the team I’ve seen the past few weeks is like nothing I’ve seen before.
