Look who just made more money!
The Eagles/Donovan McNabb saga is over…for now. The team gave McNabb a restructured deal that will net him an extra $5.3 million over the next two seasons. McNabb’s restructured deal raised the question of “why not an extension?”
During yesterday’s press conference, Eagles head coach Andy Reid explained the future’s uncertainty regarding the missing extension for his franchise quarterback. Some raised an extra eyebrow at this comment but it seems Big Red referred to the collective bargaining agreement and the potential for an uncapped year in 2010.
Regardless, this move further pushes back the progress of backup quarterback Kevin Kolb. That may not be a bad thing. Once considered as a potential quarterback of the future for the Birds, McNabb’s extra cash is a slight nod to acknowledging that Kolb may not be the guy down the road.
