Despite a dismal performance in the Senior Bowl and altering his mechanics, everyone is jumping on the Tim Tebow bandwagon. Here’s what we know so far:
- Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman digs him. For the uninformed, Trestman coached up many NFL quarterbacks in his day including Bernie Kosar (while at the University of Miami), Steve Young, Scott Mitchell (the good version), and Jake Plummer (during his playoff season with Arizona).
- Tebow recently had dinner with Bill Belichick.
- Tebow also dined with former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly.
- Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan says “he’s something that’s very special.”
Now it appears there is another team interested in the former Florida Gator quarterback…the Philadelphia Eagles.
As if they don’t already have enough on their plate at quarterback these days, the Eagles are set to turn their focus towards Tebow says SI.com’s Peter King:
I have heard the Eagles will now focus on Tebow and are likely to join the parade of teams working him out and spending time with him. With seven picks in the first four rounds, Philadelphia has the ammo to go get the developmental quarterback Reid always likes to have on his roster.
Kevin Kolb, Michael Vick, and Tebow. Oh boy. A quarterback with two starts to his credit; another quarterback who has not started since New Year’s Eve 2006; and a rookie, who will be a project.
I’m guessing this is a “just in case” look. The Eagles desperately need defenders in the early rounds and grabbing Tebow might stunt that process a bit.
Nonetheless, Tebow is slowly creeping his way from fourth round status all the way into the first round. While we have no idea how he will translate on the field, everyone loves his off the field demeanor and what that could mean in an NFL locker room.
Tebow’s destination is one of the draft’s major storylines and it appears he will not have a shortage of suitors.
