The Return of Don’t Tase Me Bro: Phillies Fan Gets Tased

While standing in line for Turkey Hill Ice Cream at Monday night’s Phillies game, I kept hearing ovation after ovation after ovation. Nope, it wasn’t another Chase Utley home run. Instead, it was over a Phillies fan running onto the field at Citizens Bank Park. Ballpark security tasered the youngster for his efforts and perhaps, rightfully so.

When I got in my car to leave the game, people were calling the local sports talk radio station complaining about the rough treatment this hooligan received from the local authorities.

How could anyone be shocked?

Remember, we are just a few weeks removed from a Phillies fan vomiting on an 11-year-old girl. If anything, the cops should be harder on the fans.

I tweeted about this earlier but the environment at Phillies games is a fun one without a doubt. However, it’s Animal House meeting folks that would attend a Dave Matthews Band concert. College age kids and others are spending hours in the parking lot getting ripped and then going into the ballpark. Stuff like this is going to continue happen unless it’s monitored in a more careful fashion.

Not coincidentally, it was also “Dollar Dog Night” at the park this evening, which typically brings out a crowd that you would likely see at a college bar.

While I don’t know the B.A.C. of the gentlemen who ran on the field tonight, I would not be shocked if he was “feeling good” at the time of his on the field romp.

Ultimately though, he posed a great danger to the fans and of course, the players. He needed to be dealt with and in a hurry.

The Phillies’ brass owes it to the fans in attendance to protect them from all evildoers and that includes guys that run onto the field just to be cool.

I know I must sound like some crusty old guy but there’s a difference between having a good time and being a complete clown. Tonight, taser boy fulfilled the role of stadium clown.

If the cops have to use excessive force to make sure the players and people in the stands are safe from these cronies than so be it. Short of shooting someone with a gun unnecessarily, it’s their world and we’re just leaving in it.

Well done boys. Protect this house.

By the way, the Turkey Hill Ice Cream was delicious.
