ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs is out for the 2012 season after he tore his Achilles tendon playing basketball.

Obviously, this is a tremendous blow for the Ravens reaching Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

The 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year  had 14 sacks last year and has 25 over the past two seasons.

In a league predicated on generating heat on the quarterback, a team losing its premier pass rusher is an awful off-season development.

It’ll be interesting to hear Baltimore’s take on Suggs injuring himself in a non-football related activity…
