Roethlisberger Accused of Sexual Assault

According to a report on profootballtalk.com, Harrah’s employee Andrea McNulty issued a lawsuit in Nevada last week claiming that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her back in July 2008.

The civil suit claims that Roethlisberger called her up to his hotel room to fix his television and then forced her to have sex with him. Interestingly enough, while a civil lawsuit was filed last week, no criminal charges have been brought into play yet.

“The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct. If an investigation is commenced, Ben will cooperate fully and Ben will be fully exonerated.” said attorney David Cornwell in a released statement to PFT on the matter Monday night.

The Steeler front office chimed in as well. “We are aware of the allegations but cannot comment on the specifics of the case. We’ve been told Ben’s side of the story and we fully support him at this time,” said team spokesman Dave Lockett in a discussion with Pittsburgh television station WTAE.

Not to jump the gun here but I’m siding with Mr. Cornwell.  It is awfully suspicious that an incident that occurred back in July 2008 is being brought to light in July 2009. The Steelers quarterback is plus one in the Super Bowl ring category over that time frame.

The serious nature of the allegation and the civil lawsuit’s timing are a problem for this case in the long run. Stay tuned for more details.
