The New York Jets issued a release on Wednesday, promoting a major announcement to be made on Thursday from their training facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. The major announcement will be that Rex Ryan and his band of blitzers will be on the HBO series Hard Knocks, which will premiere during the summer.

Coming off an appearance in the AFC title game after barely getting into the playoffs, clearly this is right in the wheelhouse of Jets head coach Rex Ryan and the suddenly high-profile Jets.

We will find out very quickly how the Jets will react to their stardom. During this NFL Films/HBO production, you can count on a few storylines:

  • Year two of Mark Sanchez.
  • Year two of Rex Ryan and his loose lips and (potentially) looser waistband.
  • Rex Ryan’s eating habits
  • Mark Sanchez’s dating habits
  • The evolution of Revis Island.
  • How the Jets will deal with being the likely favorites to win the AF C East considering the media-imposed dirt nap that will heaped on the Patriots.

That cluster is enough to carry viewers through December let alone a month. It should make for quite the entertaining view as the Jets enter the 2010 season as one of the league’s “it” teams.

The show will pose a challenge for the Jets. One of the biggest problems with young teams that have success quickly is keeping them grounded. This show may not help fend off such a problem.

Ooooh. Almost forgot. The camera crews will probably follow the newest Jet as well…
