One year after signing Albert Haynesworth a $100 million deal, he is becoming quite the pain in the neck for the Washington Redskins.

Haynesworth, who earned $32 million last season alone, skipped two recent “voluntary” minicamps  and is not happy about the team switching to a 3-4 defensive alignment.

His newest role in that setup would require him to lineup across from the center and occupy a few other blockers in the process. The problem seems rather simple. Playing nose tackle in a 3-4 does not allow quite the same freedom to attack the quarterback as a 4-3 setup could, which is what Haynesworth wants to do reportedly.

If I dished out a contract for $100 million with $48 million of it guaranteed, I would not be pleased that the same guy would be disgruntled the next year.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is following such a line of thought:

“I’m disappointed he’s not here — absolutely. We’re expecting our players to lead by example, and we’re expecting our players to understand that they’re Redskins and they need to be here.”

The Redskins tried to trade Haynesworth according to reports but it appears they’ll have to sit on him for the season unless they can get something done prior to mandatory mini-camp and training camp.

Have fun with that Mike Shanahan.

It seems Haynesworth’s song of choice these days could be from Phil Collins’ 1982 Hello, I Must Be Going album.
