Week 1 Early Roundup: Colts DOA; Ravens Roll

Some of the highlights from early game action in Week 1:

Texans 34, Colts 7: Consider that Houston did this without running back Arian Foster in the lineup. Matt Schaub tossed a touchdown strike while backup running backs Ben Tate and Derrick Ward scored for Houston. Peyton Manning’s replacement, Kerry Collins, was sacked three times and fumbled twice. Colts fans, brace yourself for Curtis Painter. He is coming.

Eagles 31, Rams 13: After a slow start, the Eagles used over 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns from LeSean McCoy to subdue the Rams. Sam Bradford left the game with a right hand injury. X-rays were negative. So was his play.

Bills 41, Chiefs 7:  Sometimes, preseason does mean something. The Chiefs looked dreadful for much of the preseason and carried over into the home opener. Bills quarterback and Harvard alum Ryan Fitzpatrick shredded Kansas City for four touchdown passes en route to Buffalo’s most impressive opening day performance since their 31-0 drubbing of the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Bears 30, Falcons 12: To all those Matt Ryan supporters, he has some work to do. Atlanta committed three turnovers and Ryan was sacked by Chicago five times. The Falcons finished 4 for 13 on third down conversions to hurt matters.

Ravens 35, Steelers 7: Today was a great example of why Super Bowl runner-ups struggle to duplicate their previous season’s success. Baltimore’s Ray Rice scored twice but Pittsburgh coughed up seven turnovers. Ben Roethlisberger accounted for five of those including three interceptions.
