Immediate attempts to revive the 29-year-old up0n finding his body were unsuccessful.
Earlier this morning, owner Jeffrey Lurie issued a statement regarding Garrett’s passing:
The Philadelphia Eagles are sad to announce that Garrett Reid, the oldest son of head coach Andy Reid, has died. Garrett Reid, 29, had been attending Eagles training camp with his father and was found in his room this morning. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and defensive coordinator Juan Castillo oversaw the team’s walk-through this morning, and will oversee the team until Reid’s return.
“This news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family. Our hearts go out to Andy, his wife, Tammy, and their children,” said Eagles Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie.
Eagles training camp is taking place at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Garrett was the oldest son of five children.
UPDATE -12:15PM: A cause of death had not yet been determined. Meanwhile, Andy Reid ordered practice to go on as scheduled later this afternoon. Castillo and Mornhinweg will oversee practice as Reid deals with this family tragedy.
2:00PM: Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that suicide and foul play have been ruled out based off of information from Lehigh University Chief of Police Edward Shupp.
