Analyzing A Wes Welker Jersey Burning Ceremony

Two crazy Patriots fans were upset over Wes Welker bolting to Denver and joining forces the most evil Manning of them all, Lord Voldemort Peyton.

As is the case with a cluster of rambunctious fans, these two decided to burn a Welker jersey in a unified display of defiance.

Time for a quick running commentary of the dialogue during the jersey burning ceremony…

“THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CAN’T CATCH IN THE PLAYOFFS. THANKS FOR COSTING US A RING.”

Well, this is a tough one. Welker dropped a pass that probably would have sealed up Super Bowl XLVI for the Patriots.

Then, in the AFC title game, a critical drop in Ravens territory in the third quarter killed a potential scoring drive.

As stated before here, Tom Brady has to make a better throw there…BUT if Welker is going to pump me for millions of dollars annually, he has got to make that catch. That wasn’t Brady throwing to Reche Caldwell.

“TRAITOR!”

Interesting point here. In perhaps a last minute move to poke the Patriots, Welker went into talks with Denver in order to get a deal done.

Going to one of New England’s chief competitors and his buddy Tom’s greatest rival, is a middle finger to the Pats in the first place.

Essentially, Welker subtly told the Pats, “I’m going to put you over a barrel by threatening to go to the Broncos.”

So, I can relate to the traitor sentiment.

“MAY THE NAME OF WES WELKER BE STRICKEN FOREVER FROM PATRIOT LORE.”

Ok, that’s really overdramatic.

“TRAITOR…OVER FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND MEASLY DOLLARS.”

The great part of this story is that New England reportedly had a deal in place with Danny Amendola prior to the Welker situation falling apart.

Alas, Welker wasn’t going to be a Patriot in ’13, period.

Thus, while the money issue looks bizarre, Bill Belichick had his reasons.

“MAY HIS NAME BE STRICKEN FOREVER…AND NEVER SAID AGAIN!!”

These guys don’t have all the facts on this situation evidently. However, that’s how I like my American sports fans…angry, delusional, and relatively uninformed.

  1. Hilarious! Burning jerseys… what a waste of money. These guys could use a reminder that the Pats probably wouldn’t have been in the Super Bowl if not for Welker’s heroics during regular season. Fantasy Spin: Welker’s move to Denver on the surface looks like he and Manning will pick up where him and Brady left off. That would be an incorrect assessment of the situation. His value drops with this move, along Demaryius Thomas’ slightly, but most affected is Eric Decker, who is an effective slot receiver too and will now be seeing the ball a lot less. There are too many mouths to feed. As it stands right now, we have Thomas #5 WR, Welker #22 WR, and Decker #26 WR. Peyton’s value bumps up for sure, and moves him slightly ahead of, ironically, Tom Brady, who we moved down to #4 QB, Peyton jumped up to #3 QB.
