Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker will miss the first four games of the season after testing positive for a banned amphetamine and violating the league’s substance abuse policy, according to the team on Tuesday.
According to Pro Football Talk, Welker took Molly (also known as MDMA) while at the Derby. Unfortunately for Welker, the MDMA he took was cut with amphetamines. Both substances are banned by the NFL.
The Kentucky Derby turned out to be a wild ride for Welker. He hauled in over $57,000 but was awarded $14,000 as well thanks to a clerical error.
However, Welker’s party boy run at the Derby will come at a price.
This overshadows Welker’s current concussion conundrum. The Bronco wideout suffered a concussion during a preseason game against Houston and is battling to come back.
Now, the earliest Denver fans can expect to see ex-Patriot is Week 6 against the Jets.
