3. Belichick vs. Manning: Fourth and 2
Unless you lived under a rock during the 2009 NFL season, you have become well-versed on the circumstances surrounding Lord Belichick’s decision to go for it on fourth and two.
Months later, perhaps the best tribute to his call was provided by Saints head coach Sean Payton. He too, realized that in order to prevent Manning from overrunning the game or seizing control, a gamble needed to be made.
Unlike Payton’s decision, Belichick’s was a bit more disjointed. However, it was the right call. He took a gamble and failed. Yet, that’s what makes him Bill Belichick. He is willing to take a risk when others refuse.
