NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith rejected the 18-game schedule, citing player safety as a primary concern.

The 18-game idea from the owners reeked of poor taste and perhaps, utter overconfidence that the average fan’s thirst of football would help sway public opinion to their side.

Regardless, another deadline draws closer.

The league and union have until Friday evening to reach a settlement.
