When I was a little JMRA, I had a list of syndicated TV shows that I had to watch after school at some point.

The Jeffersons was on my roll call of must-watch shows and the biggest reason was George Jefferson.

The show featured comedy, interracial dating, and awkward interactions between black and white people.

And then there was that theme song…

Of course, Norman Lear’s program centered the bombastic George Jefferson. Today, Sherman Hemsley, who masterfully played George, passed away at age 74.

Was The Jeffersons one of the greatest television shows of all-time? Probably not but George Jefferson doesn’t take a historical backseat to many television characters.

Somewhere, George and Weezy are at a deluxe apartment in the sky.
