For the first time in seven attempts, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens without the services of Ben Roethlisberger.
The much-maligned Charlie Batch broke the spell in a dramatic, last-second 23-20 win over the Ravens on Sunday.
Immediately following the game-winning field goal, Batch and Roethlisberger shared an embrace that appeared to last longer than the shootout in Heat.
A week after one of the more embarrassing losses in recent Steelers memory (a 20-14 loss at the Browns that featured eight Pittsburgh turnovers), Batch and company responded after trailing by 10 at Baltimore.
Under normal circumstances, Batch may have been benched for his performance against Cleveland. However, the Steelers were left with little choice but to send him out there once again.
This time, Batch rewarded Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin for his faith in the aging quarterback.
Now, Pittsburgh is alive and well in the AFC playoff picture with one of the league’s best defenses…and one of the league’s greatest huggers.
