Chip Kelly’s mission to troll Philadelphia Eagles fans and media continued on Monday as the team opted to give embattled quarterback Tim Tebow another shot at NFL glory by offering him a workout with the team.
When we last saw Tebow in the NFL, he was a member of the New England Patriots before being cut in August 2013. Since that time, Tebow has spent more time publicly developing as a broadcaster with ESPN’s SEC Network.
Let’s cut to the chase.
The mere idea of the Eagles even working out Tebow is patently absurd. He hasn’t started an NFL game in four years and would be nothing more than a Grade A distraction if he joined the team despite Tebow allegedly learning to throw spirals from Tom Brady’s throwing guru, Tom House.
For the moment, the Eagles have Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, and Matt Barkley as quarterbacks. If Tebow were to join the team, he’d presumably take Barkley’s roster spot in the long run if he stayed with the team.
At this rate, a Tebow signing would officially run the Eagles’ offseason off the rails.
Philly says they have no plans to sign him. Yet, the mere idea of them sniffing around Tebow should be enough cause for concern.
