Brett Favre’s Career Best Summed Up In One Play

Brett Favre delivered a passionate and lengthy speech that nearly reached 40 minutes on Saturday night as the ex-Packer, Jet, and Viking quarterback was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Favre’s career accomplishments put him on the short list of greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. His three-straight league MVPs is an accomplishment only achieved by Peyton Manning and Jim Brown.

While many point to Super Bowl XXXI as a defining moment (and rightfully so) in Favre’s career, another one sticks out to me.

His illustrious and bizarre postseason career began during the 1993 postseason on the road against the Detroit Lions.

After losing the NFC Central title to the Lions a week earlier in Detroit, Favre and the Packers had to play them a second straight week to open the wild card round.

After trailing 17-7 in the second half, Green Bay trailed by three with just over a minute left. Then, it happened.

Favre scrambled to the left and then, launched a majestic bomb downfield to Sterling Sharpe, who hauled in the 40-yard strike from the Hall of Famer.

The play was quintessential Favre. He looked like at times he had no idea what he was about to do but his immense physical talent and guts ruled the day.

While Green Bay was buried by Dallas a week later, the win in Detroit helped lay the foundation for Favre and the Packers en route to winning Super Bowl XXXI three years later.

The Detroit victory was Favre’s first playoff win and a big step on the road to becoming a Hall of Famer.
