San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo labored in a brief preseason appearance against the Denver Broncos on Monday night as concern continues over his return.
The 49ers won the game 24-15 but the headlines drifted towards San Francisco’s prized quarterback. Garoppolo’s short appearance last three series and featured a passer rating of 0.0 thanks to going 1 of 6 for 0 yards with an interception.
Oh, as for that interception:
Garoppolo’s interception was a bad throw with a pretty sweet assist from some subpar blocking. Nonetheless, it appeared Garoppolo wasn’t too keen on stepping into the throw. Of course, he is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in a Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s easy to see where he would be uncomfortable.
However, after a highly questionable training camp performance that featured the ex-Patriots quarterback throwing five straight interceptions during practice, the concern is starting to creep in.
Following the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the key for Garoppolo will be getting more reps. If Monday night was any indication, Jimmy G will need plenty of them before Week 1.
