According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has informed team owner Jim Irsay that he will retire.
Schefter’s report also cites the former Pro Bowl quarterback being mentally worn down. The team will have a press conference to confirm the situation on Sunday.
The stunning news comes after the 29-year-old Luck has battled a calf injury during the offseason that had put his early season availability in jeopardy.
Luck will retire with 23,671 passing yards and 171 touchdown passes. He led the NFL with 40 touchdown passes in 2014. During that same season, he led Indianapolis to the 2014 AFC Championship Game in a loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
