Sunday’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins will likely be remembered for its rain-soaked conditions. However, it will also be remembered for accomplishing something the league has not seen in a decade.
The 9-0 win for the 49ers took two hours and 36 minutes to play. That is shortest game runtime since the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars met near the end of the 2009 season.
A torrential downpour mixed with not a ton of passing attempts (33) and just nine penalties total added to a shortened length.
For the record, the average length of an NFL game is 3 hours and 12 minutes.
