NFL Vice President of Officiating Mike Pereira discussed the controversial NFC Championship game on the NFL Network recently to explain some of the officiating calls. To make a long story short, he explains that the replays for the controversial calls did not provide conclusive evidence to change the initial ruling on the field (i.e. Meachem catch, Thomas fumble).
Interestingly enough, he did say that an error was made on Brett Favre’s first interception of the day and that roughing the passer should have been called. Favre was hit low after the play and according to NFL 2009 mandates, that falls under the “Brady Rule” clause.
An online version of the interview can be found here. No word on the Ben Leber play though. Maybe trying to come up with an explanation of how that ball was catchable? Ok Saints fans, really that’s it. Time to focus on Miami. I promise.
