Eagles Offer Contract Extension To A QB…Not Named McNabb

According to Garry Cobb of 610 WIP-AM in Philadelphia, the Eagles have offered a contract extension to one of their quarterbacks…Kevin Kolb.

Donovan McNabb is entering the last year of his contract and logic dictates that he would either get an extension or get a boot out of town. After all, having a lame duck quarterback is not good for business.

McNabb has expressed his desire to remain with the Eagles. Head coach Andy Reid has also expressed a willingness to keep McNabb in green.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have flatly denied these rumors, which is a smart thing to do. Logic would say they will try to play this as coy as possible so that they can amp up the trade value of whomever they may want to get rid of.

The last two high profile occurrences of the older quarterback being jettisoned for a younger product has shown mixed results.

In 2006, San Diego got rid of a recently injured Drew Brees and decided to let Phil Rivers start in his third year with the the team. We all know now how it worked out for the older Brees.

During the first Brett Favre retirement bout, Green Bay ultimately went with Aaron Rodgers.

Odds are, much like San Diego and Green Bay, the Eagles will ultimately side with their younger quarterback.

  1. This makes sense but I still think McNabb can let the bums to the title. Fix the “D”. Fire the d-coorindator. he sucks. I am a die Eagles fan. A Philly living in LA. I have watch this crap since I was born in 1952.

    • I sympathize with you. The Eagles have my team since I started watching football in the late 80s. People don’t understand that McNabb is nowhere near the whole problem. This is a league built on throwing. The Eagles don’t play well against premier quarterbacks. That needs to be fixed or they’ll never get there.
