Remember when San Diego cornerback Antonio Cromartie was one of the NFL’s hot topics in 2007? Well, the Chargers are trying to capitalize on that and more by exploring a deal that would net San Diego a running back, according to ESPN.
Since LaDainian Tomlinson has one foot out the door and Darren Sproles is about to hit free agency, the Chargers need a bargaining chip to land a running back. That could be Cromartie, who is one of the few Chargers with any type of trade value.
The trade rumors add to an already rocky offseason for Cromartie, who lost a grievance to his former agent Jason Smith over back fees totaling $32,000.
One way or the other expect the Chargers to make some sort of move. Their leading rusher after Tomlinson and Sproles is Mike Tolbert. Yep, sounds some backfield adjustments coming up.
