Possessed perhaps by some otherworldly being or maybe running for Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person in the World feature, Miami Dolphins general mangaer Jeff Ireland asked Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant if his mom was a prostitute in a recent interview. Yes, you read right.
During his pre-draft visit with the Miami Dolphins, the future 24th overall pick in the NFL Draft was asked if his mother was a lady of the evening. Obviously, Bryant denied such an erroneous question.
The woman in question was Bryant’s mom, Angela, who conceived the former Oklahoma State receiver at age 15. She served prison time at one point during Bryant’s childhood and had two other children by her 20th birthday as well.
Regardless, if you’re going to ask a question like that, you better be dead on about the situation. Instead, Ireland looks foolish and now has offered an apology.
While he doesn’t have the market covered for asking bizarre/inappropriate pre-draft questions (one NFL executive asked Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy if he played in a g-string or wore a jock strap), Ireland’s common sense ranked at a -5 during the Bryant interview.
You just don’t ask that because if you’re wrong, it looks bad. Really bad.
