15.) Super Bowl VII – After missing a field goal with two minutes left that would have given Miami a 17-0 lead over Washington, Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian attempted to play QB and promptly lost the ball to Washington’s Mike Bass, who returned it for a score. The Dolphins held for a 14-7 win and finished 17-0.

14.) Super Bowl X – Down 10-7, the Steelers get a bit chippy with Dallas, as Jack Lambert throws Dallas’ Cliff Harris down following a taunt from Harris after a missed Pittsburgh field goal. The Steelers rallied following the altercation, winning 21-17.

13.) Super Bowl XXXI – New England scored late in the third quarter in order to continue its comeback and came within six points of Green Bay, down 27-21. However, eventual game MVP Desmond Howard returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Howard’s return propelled Green Bay to a 35-21 victory.

12.) Super Bowl XXVII – Dallas’ Leon Lett was en route to a fumble return for a touchdown as Dallas continued to romp Buffalo – however, in a dignity-preserving move, Buffalo’s Don Beebe stripped the football from Lett’s hands as the burly defensive lineman celebrated prematurely. The Cowboys picked up the 52-17 win.

11.) Super Bowl XVIII – Marcus Allen put an exclamation point on a dominant Raiders effort with one of the greatest runs in Super Bowl history, a 74-yard touchdown jaunt. The Raiders claimed their third world championship, defeating Washington 38-9.

10.) Super Bowl XXXIV – With about two minutes to go and the score tied at 16, Rams quarterback Kurt Warner hit Isaac Bruce for a 73-yard scoring strike. Warner’s throw was the difference in a 23-16 heart-stopping Rams victory.

9.) Super Bowl XXXII – Known as “The Helicopter” in Denver, quarterback John Elway scrambled for the first down, on a 3rd and 6 play late in the third quarter of a tie game. He took two big hits from Packers defenders and ended up flying through the air, landing for a first down. Elway popped up to his feet and emphatically raised his fist to the Bronco sideline. Denver eventually grabbed a 24-17 lead on the drive and won the franchise’s first Super Bowl, 31-24.

8.) Super Bowl XVII – Trailing 17-13 and facing a 4th and 1 at the Miami 43 in the fourth quarter, Washington decided to go for it. John Riggins ran left, broke a tackle, and took off for six on a 43-yard touchdown run to give the Redskins a lead they would not relinquish. Washington defeated Miami 27-17.

7.) Super Bowl X – Arguably the best catch in Super Bowl history, Lynn Swann pulled in a high-flying catch for a 53-yard gain on the pass from Terry Bradshaw.

6.) Super Bowl XLII – Finishing off an 83-yard drive in the final minutes of the game, the Giants’ QB Eli Manning found Plaxico Burress for a touchdown, putting the Giants ahead 17-14 with just 35 seconds to go. The Burress game-winner ended New England’s run at perfection.

5.) Super Bowl XXV – Down 20-19 to the Giants, the Bills got the ball back with 2:16 to go and promptly drove deep into New York territory. With eight seconds left, Scott Norwood attempted a game-winning 47-yard field goal, but missed wide right.

4.) Super Bowl XXXVI – Tied at 17, Tom Brady led a drive to get the Patriots into field goal position with just seven seconds left. Adam Vinatieri drilled the 48-yard field goal to upset the heavily-favored Rams. Vinatieri’s kick gave New England a 20-17 triumph and the first of its three Super Bowl victories in a four-year span.

3.) Super Bowl XXXIV – Down 23-16 to the Rams, the Titans drove to the St. Louis 10-yard line with time for one last play. Dyson stretched for the end zone and comes up a yard short as the Rams hold on.

2.) Super Bowl XXIII – Trailing Cincinnati 16-13 in the fourth quarter, the 49ers started a drive from their own 8-yard line with 3:10 to go. San Francisco’s Joe Montana orchestrated a brilliant drive to the Cincinnati 10, and then fired a game-winning scoring strike to John Taylor with less than 30 seconds to go. Montana’s heroics gave the 49ers a 20-16 in Bill Walsh’s final game as 49er head coach.

1.) Super Bowl XLII – Just before the game-winning touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress, Giants quarterback Eli Manning performed a miracle. Scrambling for dear life, Manning broke free of several Patriots defenders before launching a pass that was caught in spectacular and improbable fashion by David Tyree. The 32-yard “Helmet Catch” allowed the drive to continue, as they eventually triumphed over the Patriots 17-14.
