While he elected to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday, Robert Griffin III ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.38 seconds.
The big winner may eventually be St. Louis, who has the number two in April’s draft.
As pointed earlier this week in a Peyton Manning piece, most teams could use help at quarterback.
Cleveland, Washington, and Miami are likely to call St. Louis and try to get to the second pick.
Assuming Andrew Luck goes first, the Griffin sweepstakes is the most interesting nuance to the draft’s first round.
If I’m St. Louis, I’ll start the discussion at the payoff Cleveland received for the Julio Jones deal last spring. Atlanta gave Cleveland five picks including a first and fourth-rounder in the 2012 draft to take Jones with the sixth overall pick last April.
On a historical note, Griffin’s 4.38 is the second fastest 40-time for a quarterback since 2000.
Michael Vick ran a 4.33 at the 2001 NFL Combine.
