Vocal Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is unhappy about Ric Flair aligning himself with the San Francisco 49ers last weekend.
Flair, who spoke to the 49ers prior to their 23-20 win over Green Bay on Sunday, was a long-time resident of Charlotte, North Carolina but moved to Atlanta.
The 16-time world champion told the Niners that his heart was with San Francisco during the NFL playoffs. That didn’t sit positively with the veteran Panthers receiver:
“Hmmmmm,” Smith says, when I ask his reaction. “As a guy who actually has a Ric Flair robe I’m real disappointed in seeing that. Real disappointed.”
Adds Smith: “I’m not sure if he’ll (Flair) get the invite here. That Golden Gate Bridge has been burned.”
If Flair currently lived in Charlotte, then you might have a bizarre situation on your hands. However, it’s clear that the 49ers butter Flair’s bread a bit more than the Panthers.
This Sunday, Carolina hosts San Francisco in the NFC Divisional playoffs. Surely, Flair will let out a few more WOOOOOOOOO’s upon a San Fran win.
Alas, Smith should have known this was coming. Flair’s on-screen mantra isn’t exactly one of integrity.
Ice up, Steve.
