How Trent Richardson Became Johnny Manziel

The football world is abuzz still from Thursday night’s opening round of the NFL Draft when the Cleveland Browns traded up with the Philadelphia Eagles to select Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel with the 22nd pick overall.

Let’s go back in time for a moment.

Last season, the Indianapolis Colts were in need of a running back and opted to deal for Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2014 draft.

Welp, guess who became that pick?

The Browns eventually parlayed that 26th pick into Johnny Football. Depending on what happens to Manziel, that could turn into one of the great heists in recent league history.

Since the trade, Richardson did very little for the Colts. Over 14 games with Indy, Richardson rushed for only 2.9 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns.

While the New England Patriots might disagree that Manziel will make something of himself in the NFL, the Browns have their man.

Now, whether he can survive the impending loss of standout wide receiver Josh Gordon to put together a competent rookie campaign remains to be seen.
