Philadelphia Eagles Sign Kicker Nicknamed “Murderleg”

NCAA Football: Vanderbilt at Florida

The Philadelphia Eagles signed undrafted rookie free agent kicker Carey Spear on Saturday night.

Spear, who will be in competition with Eagles kicker Alex Henery for the starting job, is nicknamed “Murderleg.”

No, not “Legatron” but in fact, “Murderleg.”

The Vanderbilt product stands 5-10 and weighs 194 pounds. Most importantly to Philly’s concerns, Spear was an effective long-distance kicker last year. He connected on four of five field goals from 50 yards or more.

Last season, Henery only attempted two kicks from 50 yards and beyond, converting one of them.

Spear also stood out perhaps due to his tackling ability on kick returns, which was on display last season on a few occasions.

He can stick people but hopefully “Murderleg” can help the Eagles.
