With the 249th pick overall in the NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams selected Missouri defensive end Michael Sam during the seventh round of Saturday’s proceedings.
The Rams decided to select Sam on Saturday evening; and in turn, drafting the first-ever openly gay NFL player.
Sam joins one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. Last season, the Rams sacked opposing quarterbacks 53 times – third most in the league.
The Sam decision caps a very bizarre day for the Rams organization. Earlier, offseason acquisition Kenny Britt posted a video to Instagram featuring a man and a woman having sex.
Britt aside, the Rams can now focus on the business of embracing the NFL’s first-ever openly gay player and seeing if he can be a contributing member to the Rams.
