Live Game Blog – NFC Divisional Playoff: Cowboys At Packers – Cousin Of The Ice Bowl

CowboysIB67

Two classic franchises at a classic venue in the postseason…and a classic villain – Chris Christie’s orange sweater.

FIRST QUARTER

1:05 – Cowboys to receive….and promptly go three and out. Romo fumbles on third down but recovers.

1:14 – What about the calf of Aaron Rodgers? The world will crumble right? Not hardly. Rodgers leads a 61-yard scoring drive (mostly on the back of runner Eddie Lacy) that is capped by a short TD laser to tight end Andrew Quarless. Looks good to me.

By the way, the true highlight of the drive was an Aaron Rodgers line call of NEW YORK BOZO…

Hmm…wonder who he is referring to there:

PACKERS 7, COWBOYS 0

1:17 – How long before painkilling injections wear off?

1:25 – Ladies and gentlemen, New York Bozo:

Aaron Rodgers, you are the MVP.

1:30 – Dallas is answering the New York Bozo drive with a potential scoring threat of their own behind the running of DeMarco Murray.

1:34 – That famed Tony Romo to Tyler Clutts combination draws Dallas even. Great drive by the ‘Boys. No Christie sighting…yet.

COWBOYS 7, PACKERS 7

1:40 – First quarter ends with Rodgers taking a sack but defensive holding is the call. Here’s the thing, this game is being played at Dallas’ tempo right now. Slow and no big plays from Green Bay. Hmmm…

END OF FIRST – COWBOYS 7, PACKERS 7

SECOND QUARTER

1:42 – Much like yesterday’s game with Baltimore and New England, this appears to be the blinking game. At some point, one of these two quarterbacks is going to blink and blink, badly. By the way, Rodgers has put together another drive but he’s not quite the same so far.

1:50 – Much respect to Aaron Rodgers for making me look like a profit. Fumble by Rodgers after an errant snap to him just outside of the red zone. Dallas hops on top for the first turnover of the day. Folks, this is how upsets happen.

1:56 – Terrance Williams is back in the house. And by house, I mean end zone. He dances around the Packers for on a 38-yard TD pass from Tony Romo that puts Dallas on top.

COWBOYS 14, PACKERS 7

2:02 – Dude, I think the Packers are going to lose this game. Definitely has that vibe…

2:11 – DALLAS…IS….JUST…TAKING…THEIR…SWEET…TIME. Drive into Green Bay territory at two-minute warning.

2:23 – Cowboys get a first down on Witten catch deep in Green Bay territory but it’s overturned due to a brutal spot.

How brutal, you ask?

GBWittenSpotJust terrible.

A review following timeout makes it 3rd and 1 instead of a first down. Dallas misses on a crazy throw on 3rd and 1 from Romo. Hey, you have the NFL rushing champ. How about running it on short yardage again?

Of course, moments later, Dan Bailey misses a 50-yard field goal.

2:28 – DeMarcus Lawrence sacks Rodgers to kill a potential scoring threat for the Packers. Clearly, Rodgers is really compromised by the calf injury.

2:32 – Of course, Rodgers shuts me up by hitting Randall Cobb on a gorgeous sideline play that leads to a Mason Crosby field goal right before half.

HALFTIME: COWBOYS 14, PACKERS 10

SUMMARY – If I’m a Packers fan (or Cowboys fan for that matter), I don’t feel good about this. Meanwhile, Seattle is quietly rooting for the Packers as they see Aaron Rodgers limp around the field.

THIRD QUARTER

2:59 – During Dallas’s opening drive in the third quarter…a controversial PI call as Romo tried to connect with Dez Bryant. Lucky for Romo nothing disastrous happened as threw with his eyes closed.

RomoEyesWelp, moments later disaster strikes for the Cowboys. DeMarco Murray seemingly had a huge hole and was on his way to the end zone until Julius Peppers and his big paw swatted the ball out of Murray’s hand.

3:07 – Somehow, Dallas keeps escaping ultimate disaster. The Packers drive into the red zone thanks to a long run by Eddie Lacy. However, a 3rd and 1 near the DAL 10 turns into a 3rd and 16 because TJ Lang tries to play hero lineman and illegally blast Dallas defenders. Another Crosby field goal.

COWBOYS 14, PACKERS 13

3:14 – Well, you had a feeling the Dallas offense was going to respond. DeMarco Murray goes in from a yard out. Romo is dying a slow football death out there. Now, he is limping around after taking a hit from Micah Hyde moments earlier.

COWBOYS 21, PACKERS 13

3:21 – Buck says Romo has a left knee injury. We take you live to the home of Richard Sherman:

3:30 – Rodgers stops fiddling around with the Cowboys defense. He goes to rookie Davante Adams with a 46-yard dart for a score. Adams jukes Cowboys’ defenders out of their shoes on the play. Mike McCarthy wisely kicks the extra point.

COWBOYS 21, PACKERS 20

3:32 – Cowboys approaching midfield get slowed by a sack on first down as the third quarter comes to a close. Remember that 3rd and 1 play for Dallas at the end of the first half? Yeah, that’s becoming a problem soon. #JASONGARRETT

END OF THIRD – COWBOYS 21, PACKERS 20

FOURTH QUARTER

3:36 – Dallas gives up another sack to start the quarter to turn a 1st and 10 into a 3rd and 23. Guess how that movie ends?

PUNT.

3:43 – Green Bay starts drive at their own 20. Rodgers is awake and driving the ball accurately. Far different guy in the second half.

3:44 – Rodgers to Rodgers for six. Green Bay finally regains the lead.

PACKERS 26, COWBOYS 21

This Packers scoring drive is brought you by:

RayLewisDeerJust saying…

3:51 – Aaron Rodgers is a bad man though.

RodTD4:01 – Here’s the game. Dallas goes on 4th and 2 in GB territory. Dez Bryant makes an unreal catch inside of the GB 5. Mike McCarthy challenges the catch and it’s called incomplete. Woof. Crappy turn of events for Dallas. Superb effort by Bryant but league’s bizarro rules on “completing the process” doomed him there.

Packers ball and perhaps the end of the Cowboys’ season.

4:07 – The Detroit Lions send their condolences to Cowboys fans everywhere:

Ouch.

4:15 – Game over. Packers win.

FINAL: PACKERS 26, COWBOYS 21
