Al Michaels, who appeared on Monday’s B.S. Report with Grantland’s Bill Simmons, will be behind the mic for NBC on play-by-play for his ninth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Seahawks and Patriots clash.
Peering inside the previous eight Super Bowls called by Michaels, six of the eight have a common denominator. They have ended terribly for the AFC:
Super Bowl XXII – Washington 42, Denver 10

Super Bowl XXV – New York 20, Buffalo 19
Super Bowl XXIX – San Francisco 49, San Diego 26
Super Bowl XXXIV – St. Louis 23, Tennessee 16
Super Bowl XXXVII – Tampa Bay 48, Oakland 21
Super Bowl XL – Pittsburgh 21, Seattle 10
Super Bowl XLIII – Pittsburgh 27, Arizona 23
Super Bowl XLVI – New York 21, New England 17
Thus, unless it’s a Pittsburgh win, the AFC is in trouble.
I know, i know. Total coincidence but I feel this is a far more notable storyline than a ballboy potentially taking a bathroom break while in possession of the AFC Championship game balls.
