Super Bowl XLIX

Al Michaels Is The AFC Grim Reaper

AlMichaelsAl Michaels, who appeared on Monday’s B.S. Report with Grantland’s Bill Simmons, will be behind the mic for NBC on play-by-play for his ninth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Seahawks and Patriots clash.

Peering inside the previous eight Super Bowls called by Michaels, six of the eight have a common denominator. They have ended terribly for the AFC:

Super Bowl XXII – Washington 42, Denver 10

Super Bowl XXV – New York 20, Buffalo 19

Super Bowl XXIX – San Francisco 49, San Diego 26

Super Bowl XXXIV – St. Louis 23, Tennessee 16

Super Bowl XXXVII – Tampa Bay 48, Oakland 21

Super Bowl XL – Pittsburgh 21, Seattle 10

Super Bowl XLIII – Pittsburgh 27, Arizona 23

Super Bowl XLVI – New York 21, New England 17

Thus, unless it’s a Pittsburgh win, the AFC is in trouble.

I know, i know. Total coincidence but I feel this is a far more notable storyline than a ballboy potentially taking a bathroom break while in possession of the AFC Championship game balls.
