I love New England Patriots fans. They are passionate, fun, over the top, and rowdy in large part thanks to the greatest run of sustained success in NFL history.
However, Sunday was not their finest hour.
New England fell to Denver 20-18 in the AFC Championship and in turn, watch their run to successful defend the Vince Lombardi Trophy come to an end.
New England’s missed two-point try was a necessity after the extremely reliable Stephen Gostkowski missed an extra-point following a one-yard Steven Jackson touchdown run.
As is the case often during postseason games, mistakes by placekickers tend to hang around during games for awhile. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why Gostkowski blamed himself for the loss in a postgame interview.
You’d think Gostkowski, who hit 523 straight extra points dating back to 2006, would catch a break from Patriots fans.
Nope.
Let’s go to Twitter.
Perhaps, this one is the topper…

Get a life, guys. The Patriots would have been rolling out of wild card weekend without Gostkowski this season.

MY NAME IS GARY MORGAN
DIE HARD NEW ENGLAND PATRIOT
FAN. MY HEART WAS SAD AND I TOO
WAS DISAPPOINTED AT THE LOSS.
I STILL CAN T BELIEVE IT, BUT I HAVE
TO LOOK AT THE WHOLE PICTURE
THE WHOLE PANORAMIC VIEW OF
IT. I AD MIT GOSKOWSKI WAS PART
OF THE PROBLEM, AND THE FAILED
TWO POINT CONVERSION WAS PART
OF THE PROBLEM. THE OFFENSIVE
LINE PROTECTING BRADY WAS PART
OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THE MAJOR
PROBLEM WAS BILL BELICHICK.
HE IS THE CAUSE WE WERE IN THIS
SITUATION. THE GAME WITH THE JETS
IN OVER TIME WHEN HE ELECTED TO
KICK TO THE JETS INSTEAD OF RECEIVING THE BALL. HAD HE DONE
THAT TOM BRADY WOULD HAVE WON
THE GAME AND THE GAME WITH THE
DOLPHINS WOULD NOT HAVE MATTERED. THE PATRIOTS WOULD
HAVE HAD HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
WHETHER WE WOULD HAVE PLAYED
THE STEELERS OR BRONCOS. THE
GAME WOULD HAVE BEEN IN FOXBOROUGH, MASS. GILETTE STADIUM. THE PATRIOTS NEVER
SHOULD HAVE LOST TO THE JETS
AND NEVER SHOULD HAVE ELECT TO
KICK TO THE JETS IN OVER TIME.
AS MUCH AS I AM A PATRIOTS FAN
I HAVE TO BLAME BILL BELICHICK
HOWEVER, I AM PROUD OF THE WAY
THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS DEFENSE PLAYED AGAINST THE BRONCOS. THEY KEPT THE OFFENSE
IN THE GAME, BUT TOM BRADY AND
COMPANY COULD NOT CAPITALIZE.
I CAN T BELIEVE THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR JOSH MCDANIELS COULD NOT STOP THE BRONCOS DEFENSE. I CAN T BELIEVE THE PATRIOTS OFFENSIVE LINE COACH
COULD NOT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO
PROTECT TOM BRADY. WHAT IS UP WITH THE O. C. JOSH MCDANIELS
AND THE OFFENSIVE LINE COACH
OF THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
I understand your frustration. Coaching is pretty high on the list for blame yesterday. I love Belichick but I think he made a few errors or at the very least some questionable decisions.
