The new Madden NFL 17 trailer was released on Sunday as a part of an Electronic Arts panel during the E3 conference in Los Angeles.
Some of the biggest news out of the trailer’s release involves the inclusion of two new commentators. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are out; Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis are in.
The new duo doesn’t have a wealth of experience in regards to NFL game broadcasts. Davis spent his first year covering games with Thom Brenneman last season for FOX. Meanwhile, Gaudin has never done any NFL game work. He is the radio play-by-play voice of Georgia Tech football and basketball including some work with Westwood One on the NCAA tournament.
The announcer change stems from a desire to incorporate more up-to-date commentary rather than relying on a smaller collection of dialogue.
Instead, Gaudin and Davis’ arrival means a more dedicated approach to the game’s commentary and ways to make it more timely and less generic.
Thus, we’ll no longer have an A-team in the booth. Yet, the change might do the legendary video game franchise some good.
