In somewhat of a surprise move, the Baltimore Ravens signed Robert Griffin III to a one-year deal on Wednesday.
He returns to the east coast with a one-year contract worth $1 million. The signing marks Griffin’s return to the NFL after a two-year hiatus. Most recently, the former Redskins quarterback started five games for the Cleveland Browns in a largely forgettable 2016 run. During ’16, Griffin threw just two touchdown passes with three interceptions.
The recently married RGIII is a long ways away from the player that scintillated the NFL in 2012. We’ll see just how much gas he has left in the tank come preseason.
Of course, the Ravens are still led by Joe Flacco as its starting quarterback. Flacco has been extremely mediocre over the past two seasons in particular but I doubt he will lose any sleep over Griffin’s signing.
In slightly related news, Colin Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl and two NFC title games is still unemployed.
