Super Bowl week has often been a spot where players will announce their retirement from the NFL. Add former 49ers, Redskins, and Broncos tight end Vernon Davis to the list.
The 15-year veteran made the brief announcement during FOX’s Super Bowl pregame show in a segment titled “The Golden Gronks”, alongside retired NFL stars Rob Gronkowski and James Harrison.
The 36-year old Davis reached two Pro Bowls with the 49ers and won Super Bowl 50 as a member of the Denver Broncos. He spent his final four seasons with the Washington Redskins.
Davis was the sixth overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Â
