The NFL Network finished their Top 100 countdown of the league’s best players with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson finishing number one overall.
The list, which is voted on by the players, caught some by surprise to see Jackson, 2019 NFL MVP, finish ahead of Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, who recently signed the richest deal in the history of team sports.
Jackson, who did not place in the 2019 Top 100 countdown following his rookie campaign, earned the nod atop the 2020 list thanks to an awe-inspiring season. He threw 36 touchdown passes and ran for over 1200 yards while scoring seven touchdowns on the ground.
Last season, Jackson finished sixth….in rushing, which is a truly historic performance for a quarterback.
Even though Mahomes led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl win, he touchdown passes dropped from 50 in ’18 to 26 in ’19 while missing two games because of a knee injury.
Mr. Mahomes had comments (sort of) after the news dropped that he finished fourth by using a notepad emoji to suggest he is making a note of his disrespect from players around the league.
The top five was rounded out by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson coming in at second, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald (last year’s top player) landing at third, Mahomes, and then, sure-handed New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas at 5.
