Here are five quick facts on the man who will be the Eagles’ opening day starter in 2010.
1. He was born in Victoria, Texas. WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin was also billed from the same town in his introductions to the ring.
2. He attended the University of Houston, which is known for producing such NFL quarterbacks as Andre Ware and David Klingler.
3. Kolb originally became embroiled in a quarterback controversy during the 2008 season when Eagles head coach Andy Reid benched Donovan McNabb during a November contest versus the Baltimore Ravens. After some soul searching, McNabb retained his job the following week and led the Eagles to the NFC title game for the fifth time in his career.
4. Kolb made two starts in 2009 due to an opening day injury suffered by McNabb, going 1-1 in the process. The first came against the New Orleans Saints followed by a Week 3 tilt versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Along with his Week 1 appearance vs. Carolina, Kolb threw for 741 yards and four touchdowns. He was picked off three times during his two starts, all versus the Saints in Week 2.
5. He first committed to play at Oklahoma State but once the University of Houston hired his high school coach Art Briles, Kolb jumped ship to Texas.
Kevin, may the force be with you.
