My mom does not enjoy a whole lot about sports. She tends to root for the guys she thinks are cute (more on that later). She thinks a lot of fans are crazy (Eagles in particular) and well, the whole concept of sports is much ado about nothing.
Yet, she does have some sports opinions. She does not like Ric Flair, casually rooted for the Red Sox and Yankees, cheered for the Detroit Red Wings during the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals instead of the Flyers, and thinks former Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis is handsome.
Despite these wild violations, she never tried to change me or steer me away from my love of sports.
She always allowed me to stay up and watch games late, carried me to and from Little League baseball games, and even after I got hit in the eye with a baseball when I was 9, she did not encourage me to quit.
Thank you mom for your years of encouragement, tolerance, and devotion. I love you. Happy Mother’s Day.
Now in honor of my mom, I present a play from one of her favorite NFL players. Just to be difficult, she had to like this guy…
