As the trade deadline approaches on Tuesday, the Broncos continue to set a new course with Tim Tebow as their fearless leader at quarterback.
Denver dealt Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, a devout loyalist of Kyle Orton, to the St. Louis Rams on Monday for a conditional pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Lloyd’s departure further expedites the process of Tebow getting acclimated to a new set of receivers that includes Eric Decker, who leads Denver in receptions and receiving touchdowns.
Last season, Lloyd led the NFL with 1,448 receiving yards but hasn’t enjoyed the same level of success with Orton in ’11 due to the veteran quarterback’s struggles.
St. Louis desperately needs receiver help and Lloyd fits the bill. Prior to yesterday’s game at Green Bay, the Rams deactivated offseason acquisition Mike Sims-Walker, who by all accounts was healthy. That is somewhat stunning considering the St. Louis receiving corps will never be confused with the 1999 Rams.
Meanwhile, the Broncos start anew with Tebow as its starting quarterback on Sunday in Miami. He’ll have some fresh (and less talkative) faces to deal with for Denver.
