Eric Winston Slams Chiefs Fans For Cheering Matt Cassel Injury

Kansas City offensive lineman Eric Winston took Chiefs fans to task after apparently cheering quarterback Matt Cassel’s injury during Sunday’s 9-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Winston launched into a post-game monologue towards the media to vent his frustration after Cassel’s injury received cheers from the Arrowhead Stadium faithful:

“Boo him all you want. Boo me all you want. Throw me under the bus. Tell me I’m doing a bad job. Say I gotta protect him more. Do whatever you want. Say whatever you want. But if you are one of those people, one of those people that were out there cheering or even smiled when he got knocked out, I just want to let you know, and I want everybody to know that I think it’s sickening and disgusting. We are not gladiators and this is not the Roman Coliseum. This is a game.”

The response to Cassel’s injury stemmed from a frustrating start to the 2012 season and his performance during Sunday’s loss.

Baltimore lagged offensively throughout the day but Kansas City’s offense failed to take advantage.

Cassel completed just 9 of 15 passes for 92 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble.

Earlier in the day, someone commandeered a plane to display a banner that read “Fire Pioli – Bench Cassel.”

These are rough times in Kansas City.
