The tale of Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady gets its latest chapter on Sunday in Foxborough but with a different spin.
Manning enters as a Bronco in an attempt to carry out John Elway’s mission of self-gratification through ownership.
Besides Manning vs. Brady, Week 5 is headlined by a Battle of the Keystone State as the Eagles visits Pittsburgh.
NEW ENGLAND 38, DENVER 30 – Read the Bill Simmons piece on Peyton Manning this week and that’s basically how I feel about the ex-Colt’s start this season. Clearly, he is not right but the football keeps getting to where it needs to go…except for one place. He can’t chuck it deep yet. That’s what I want to see. I have a feeling Bill Belichick will want to see that too. Take away the short stuff and make the one-armed man go long. If I can figure this out, the Hoodie can too obviously. By the way, Denver’s defense gave up six touchdown passes to Brady in their last trip to Foxborough last January.
PITTSBURGH 24, PHILADELPHIA 10 – The Steelers are coming off of a bye and welcoming the pass-happy Eagles, who weren’t so pass-happy in a win over the Giants last Sunday night. Pittsburgh should be rested and ready. I don’t see Pittsburgh starting 1-3. Philadelphia normally labors against the AFC’s elite under Andy Reid on the road. That will continue.
NEW ORLEANS 24, SAN DIEGO 23 – Roger Goodell essentially goes back on his word by allowing Sean Payton to attend Sunday night’s game and this is supposed to end in anything but a New Orleans win? A loss would be too cruel. Drew Brees will break the Johnny Unitas consecutive games with a TD pass record but that is not what New Orleans covets most. The Saints aren’t very good but they’ll win a game tonight…finally.
LAST WEEK: 2-1
