After a scoreless tie through the first quarter, the New England Patriots decimated the Jets on Thanksgiving night by using a monstrous 35-point second quarter; effectively ending the Jets’ 2012 season.
New England ripped off three touchdowns in :56 seconds to end the game and eventually cruise to a 49-19 win.
Trouble started for the Jets when Tom Brady hooked up with running back Shane Vereen on an 83-yard touchdown pass to increase the Patriot lead to 14-0.
Moments later, Mark Sanchez’s botched handoff led to the Jets quarterback running into the rump one of a teammate and subsequently fumbling.
Patriots safety Steve Gregory scooped up the loose change and scored to build the lead to 21-0.
The ensuing kickoff saw Joe McKnight fumble into the oncoming hands of Julian Edelman, who promptly returned the fumble to give New England a 28-0 advantage.
Further compounding matters for the Jets, Brady totaled four touchdowns in the victory that dropped the Jets to 4-7.
New England is 8-3 and well on their way to another postseason appearance and AFC East title.
Meanwhile, the Jets will most likely be postseason-free for a second straight season after playing one of the most embarrassing first halves of football in franchise history.
