Dallas and Washington meet for the NFC East title in D.C. on Sunday night for what amounts to a knockout game.

The winner earns the division title; while the loser is likely to see the end of their season unless plenty of outside help is received earlier in the day.

Back in 1979, the Cowboys and Redskins battled for the NFC East crown at Texas Stadium. In what turned out to be the final win Roger Staubach’s Dallas Cowboys career, Roger the Dodger led a furious rally.

Down 34-21 with under five minutes left, Staubach raced Dallas down field twice, with the last score coming on an eight-yard strike to Tony Hill.

Washington ran out steam, losing the NFC East to Dallas, 35-34.

Success was fleeting for the ’79 Cowboys. Dallas lost to the eventual NFC champion Los Angeles Rams two weeks later in Texas Stadium.
