Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field could be in line to host WrestleMania in 2015 or 16, according to reports.
Wrestlechat.net reports (citing Wrestling Observer Newsletter as a source) that Philadelphia and Santa Clara are the top two choices to host the annual WWE megaevent in ’15 or ’16.
Philadelphia last hosted WrestleMania in 1999 when Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated The Rock to win the WWE title in the Wells Fargo Center.
Meanwhile, Santa Clara, California’s Levi’s Stadium will be the home of the San Francisco 49ers beginning in 2014.
Last April, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey hosted WrestleMania in blustery conditions outdoors. Having attended the event, the biggest concerns with an outdoor stadium is silence and of course, weather.
If the matches aren’t on fire, then an outdoor building sticks out like a sore thumb. The Triple H/Brock Lesnar match featured silence only rivaled in libraries. As long as the weather is tolerable, it’s not a big deal.
Nonetheless, if the Linc gets WrestleMania, “Katy bar the door…”
