The Eagles will play the New York Jets on Sunday and try to avoid an 0-3 start for the first time since 1999.
Whenever the Eagles and Jets get together on those rare occasions, my mind drifts back to 1993. Philly entered a meeting at the Meadowlands against the Jets with a sparkling 3-0 record.
During the game, Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham broke his leg and was lost for the season. Later on as the Jets marched the field, Pro Bowl Eagles cornerback Eric Allen intercepted Boomer Esiason at Philly’s 4 and proceeded to rumble 96 yards for a touchdown.
At the end of the play, Allen gave the ball to Cunningham, who was standing in the tunnel on crutches.
ALL THE FEELS.
Anyhow, this is the greatest interception return for a touchdown in NFL history…period.
