Saturday evening marked the triumphant return of football back to Los Angeles for the first time since 1994.
The Dallas Cowboys were the first guests in the Los Angeles Coliseum – the temporary home of the Rams – for preseason action in front of over 89,000 fans.
Alas, with all of the hoopla regarding the resuscitation of the NFL in Los Angeles, this happened on the opening kickoff:
Lucky Whitehead’s 101-yard kickoff return for a touchdown sent a buzz throughout the Coliseum and provided a somewhat stunning relaunch of football in L.A.
How fitting. LA football went out like a lamb in 1994 and came in the same way 22 years later.
Probably not helping matters for the Rams was the debut of rookie quarterback Jared Goff. During his virginal NFL performance, Goff finished 4 of 9 for 38 yards with an interception.
It should make for an entertaining week on Hard Knocks this week.
